We interviewed the founder and CEO of ShareYourself, Stu McGowan, 73 rapid-fire questions inspired by Vogue Magazine. Here are the results:

  1. Where do you call home? A: Burlington, VT

  1. What is your favorite place to be? A: Burlington, VT, and Alburg, VT where we have a camp on Lake Champlain. 

  1. Something you can’t live without? A: My wife Joan, whom I’ve been married to for 35 yrs. And of course our 2 bio children, and 7 adopted children.

  1. Three words to describe you? A: Bold, flamboyant, and exuberant.

  1. Favorite food? A: Everything 

  1. Favorite animal? A: Snakes

  1. What is the first thing you do in the morning? A: Cry, I hate mornings. 

  1. Favorite quote? A: Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid.

  1. Favorite sport? A: Soccer

  1. Favorite musical artist of the moment? A: Billie Eilish

  1. Favorite kind of cuisine? A: Homemade Ramen

  1. A positive quality you possess? A: Positivity

  1. A negative quality you possess? A: Negativity

  1. When do you find yourself singing? A: All the time. When anything happens in my life, at any moment, I usually have a song to accent the moment.

  1. If you could go anywhere right now where would you go? A: The Outer Banks in North Carolina to kiteboard.

  1. Who is your role model? A: My father

  1. What is your biggest pet peeve? A: People who say one thing, and do another 

  1. What’s for dinner today? A: Breaded cod, shredded potatoes, and zucchini pancakes, and salad. 

  1. Favorite holiday? A: Valentine's Day. I surprise my wife every year with VERY showy, public displays of my love for her.

  1. Favorite season? A: I like them all.

  1. If you could switch lives with someone, who? A: No one, I love my life.

  1. Best way to decompress? A: Kiteboard

  1. What makes you smile most? A: My kids, who are all adults. They never cease to make me smile.

  1. The best gift you’ve received? A: I don’t like gifts, but if I had to choose, my life, frankly.

  1. Last movie that made you cry? A: The Farewell. Cried 4 times.

  1. You’re stuck on an island, what are you bringing? A: I’m an Eagle Scout, so whatever I’m carrying would be enough.

  1. The last person you texted? A: My Son

  1. Dark or milk chocolate? A: Milk

  1. Favorite band? A: Really!? Way too many to even be able to answer that. Currently listening to Echo and the Bunnymen

  1. Something people don’t know about you? A: I’m much more conservative than you think, even though I have green hair and I still go dancing to electronica in underground clubs all over the world.

  1. Biggest fear? A: None, seriously. I really don’t care about fear. Not in my DNA. 

  1. What are you watching right now? A: The Loop

  1. Secret talent? A: I’m a secret Empath. I love figuring out how the humans in my life move through their worlds and try to help them navigate.

  1. If you had a superpower, what would it be? A: I already have the superpower, Empathy

  1. Best advice you’ve received? A: Care about others at least as much as you care about yourself.

  1. Best advice you’ve given? A: Raise your children with creativity, it’s the most important thing you will ever do.

  1. What causes are important to you? A: Damn near everything that humans need help with.

  1. Dream place to visit? A: New Zealand

  1. Window or aisle seat? A: Window. Always. I can sleep better there

  1. Most worn piece of clothing? A: My plaid hoodie

  1. What are you listening to right now? A: Nothing. I’m typing

  1. What is your mantra? A: Nothing. I just take it day by day

  1. Favorite board game? A: Risk

  1. What is your guilty pleasure? A: None. I don’t like the idea of guilty

  1. What is your latest read? A: The City We Became

  1. Coffee or tea? A: Neither, I stopped drinking coffee awhile ago

  1. How would you like to be remembered? A: As caring for other humans, and helping the underdog 

  1. Best memory from your childhood? A: So many, honestly, I grew up all over the world, I still have vivid memories from Japan, Korea, and the US. I still dream about them. 

  1. A habit you wish you could break? A: Nicotine gum. Stopped smoking 25 years ago, still chewing nicotine gum

  1. A hobby you would like to pick up? A: None right now, I’ve got dozens of hobbies that keep me busy

  1. What never fails to make you laugh? A: My wife, Joan 

  1. How many pets do you have? A: 98, A bunch of cichlids, 2 snakes, a turtle, multiple goldfish. 3 birds, a scorpion, a dozen Madagascar cockroaches, and a cat. 

  1. What do you do on a rainy day? A: Hang, walk in the rain, that sort of thing. 

  1. Cooking or baking? A: Both. I’m a very good bread baker.

  1. One lesson you learned the hard way? A: Everything changes 

  1. The best thing that happened to you in the past year? A: Everything that’s happened. You only live once, and every day is amazing. 

  1. First pet? A: Panda the dog

  1. Talent you wish you had? A: None

  1. What would be the title of your autobiography? A: He who lived to serve others

  1. Least favorite thing about yourself? A: Nothing. I like myself as I am

  1. Favorite thing about yourself? A: Nothing. I like myself as I am

  1. If you were a crayon what color would you be? A: Pink

  1. Beach or mountains? A: Both

  1. Favorite room in your house? A: Wherever I am

  1. Favorite drink? A: Champagne

  1. Biggest splurge purchase? A: Too many to list. Boats, cars, you name it

  1. The most spontaneous thing you’ve done? A: I proposed to my wife when I was 21, and she was 34. We’re still married.

  1. What would your high school superlative be? A: Spanned all types of people, friends with everyone

  1. Is there anything you regret? A: Nope. I hate the idea of regret. That means you did something that you can’t take back. I believe you shouldn’t live that way.

  1. How you end your day? A: Watching something on streaming.

  1. Favorite snack? A: I don’t snack

  1. What can you not leave the house without? A: My sunglasses

  1. Favorite shoes to wear? A: My Superman slippers, I have 23 pairs because they were discontinued, so I got them on eBay. I’ve got a lifetime supply now.
