Nice work from Akron zoo on water conservation and this FUN = "Akron Zoo has diverted
millions pounds of organic waste from landfills, ensuring all sponsored events are
zero-waste, and eliminating styrofoam and disposable plastic utensils. Going beyond
traditional recycling, Zoo staff members commit to recycling electronics, light bulbs, tires, batteries and many other items that commonly end up in landfills. The Komodo Kingdom Café was the first 4-star green certified restaurant in a North American
zoo in April 2012, with 100 percent diversion of all organic wastes. The Café also incorporates local food, vegetarian fare, and green cleaning agents, as well as providing guest education. ""

"Tom had a phone meeting this morning with Zoo Executive Director Wagner. The County is in the process of issuing an RFP for energy audits of all county facilities, and the RFP will explicitly include the zoo facilities. Tom made suggestions about how to make sure the RFP has flexibility for the audits to be paid for using the same financing as used for making the improvements, rather than treating those as two separate transactions. We’ll see if the County has an interest in understanding that approach, and making provisions so the RFP could invite Michigan Saves and/or PACE financing.

Director Wagner is trying to schedule a first meeting for us, the week of March 29 thru April 2 (noting that Friday April 2 is a Christian holiday). She is checking availability for her two other colleagues, and will let me know what time works for them. Then I can let our local team know.
